Today the Hispanic artists from Detroit collaborate on a comic book called Mariachi. Mariachi was created by both John and Chris and is written by the nefarious Dirk Manning. John and Chris both tackle the art chores. John pencils and inks while Chris pencils and handles the toning/colors.
When not working on Mariachi or reflecting on their stellar modeling careers, John and Chris both love to draw and paint. Each creator has their own creator owned books that they toil away at as well as painting murals and various design projects. Chris holds 3 World Championship wrestling titles and is the only man to ever become Tag Team Champions as a solo competitor. John has won the Intergalactic bake off for 4 years in a row. His rubarb pie is TS.
About the guys
El Arto was created by these two handsome fellas pictured above. They met while working for another independent publisher from the Detroit area. John Marroquin (left) and Chris Sanchez (right) had come to a cross roads in their respective careers. They had to take hard looks at their lives and choose between full-time male modeling or a career in comics. Never wanting to take the easy road, John and Chris turned down several offers and disapointed numerous agencies when they chose comics.
In order to make ammends with the fashion world that they left behind Chris vowed to only wear wrestling t-shirts from that day forth. John agreed to shave his head and never wear his signature leather pants again.
John Marroquin (aka John Boy) is a Championship baker, Horror movie buff, comic-loving metalhead and cat enthusiast. John lives in a suburb of Detroit with his family 2 dogs and 2 cats.
Chris Sanchez (aka Bankystar) is a giant wrestling nerd, comic lover, beer snob, POP! figure collector and champion-caliber taco eater. Chris lives in a suburb of Detroit with his wife and daughter. And no matter what he says, he will never turn off a Taylor Swift song. More of Chris' work can be seen at his personal website www.bankysdraws.com
